«Benefícios Econômicos Locais de Áreas Protegidas na Região de Manaus, Amazonas Conservation Strategy Fund Outubro de 2003 Agradecimentos À ...»

• Os conflitos econômicos causados pela existência de áreas protegidas podem ser reduzidos se as receitas geradas forem direcionadas para a economia local. Como as unidades de conservação favorecem e demandam uma série de atividades, é possível que o direcionamento dos benefícios dessas atividades para as populações afetadas pelas restrições possa auxiliar na manutenção de problemas locais;

• No caso das áreas estudadas (e possivelmente em outras situações similares na Amazônia ou outros biomas de grande interesse científico), ficou claro que os projetos de pesquisa e extensão têm um significativo fator de contribuição ao ingresso de recursos na economia local.

Os resultados demonstraram que essas atividades foram responsáveis por 62,8% do total movimentado.

• Percebe-se que a criação de um sistema de monitoramento da movimentação financeira gerada por áreas protegidas, envolvendo as principais instituições que captam e aplicam recursos na gestão e conservação dessas áreas, pode ser uma importante ferramenta para incrementar o sucesso da gestão local e para influenciar positivamente o desenvolvimento de políticas públicas para a conservação.

• Como o estudo demonstra, áreas naturais protegidas podem funcionar como importantes fatores de atração de investimentos externos. Dessa forma, elas podem e devem ser consideradas como elementos ativos na economia e importantes em processos de desenvolvimento de estratégias de uso do solo.
