Worried that he might not survive the encounter, he unfolded his 6-foot-4-inch body out of the car and stood up in the crowd. ‘So I said, ‘Does anybody speak English?’ This little guy parts the crowd, and he goes, ‘I speak the English.’ So I go, ‘Where’s the nearest hospital?’’ He fetched a rickshaw, gave the driver a bunch of cash and sent his victim and translator off to the hospital. ‘The crowd literally starts clapping, they’re patting me on the back, I get in the car, I’m driving off, I look in the rearview mirror and everybody’s waving. My heart is beating,’ he said, pounding his chest for emphasis, ‘because I’m thinking my mom is about to get the call no mother wants to get.’” [Washington Post, 3/05/15] Cashed In On CIA Experience Through Hosting Fundraiser Called “‘Crash And Bang: Tactical And Offensive Driving With Rep. Will Hurd.’” “While many flocked to the theaters over the weekend to live vicariously as a secret agent through the latest James Bond film, some are paying a pretty penny to learn real skills from a CIA agent-turned-congressman. Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, who is in his first term, is using his skills as a former C.I.A. agent to boost his re-election bid. His campaign is hosting a fundraiser on Nov. 20 called ‘Crash and Bang: Tactical and Offensive Driving with Rep. Will Hurd.’ ‘Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a turn at high speeds? Do you want to learn how to do a Jturn like you see in the movies? Do you know how to disable a car that is chasing you?’ teased an email for the event a tipster sent to HOH. Only 12 American citizens can participate in the event, and at a cost.

The event registration lists the price of admission at $5,000 per political action committee or individual…And now Hurd is sharing some CIA driving tips with donors. The email encourages participants to ‘come spend the day learning all kinds of offensive and tactical driving skills that were taught to our undercover spies when they went through the secret training facility called ‘The Farm.’’ ‘The Farm,’ otherwise known as Camp Peary near Williamsburg, Va., is a secretive training facility for CIA agents.” [Roll Call, 11/09/15] Heading: “Will Hurd Cashes In ON CIA Skills.” [Roll Call, 11/09/15] Claimed to Have Kicked Chuck Norris Out of an Embassy Claimed to Have Kicked Chuck Norris Out of an Embassy. In March 2010, Hurd joked that while he had not received Chuck Norris’ endorsement, he had once kicked him out of an embassy. “He got a little out of hand at an embassy, so I had to kick him out,” Hurd said. The program created under the bill would pre-empt related state and local laws and prohibits mandatory labeling of GE or non-GE food.” The bill passed 275-150. [HR 1599, Vote #462, 7/23/15; CQ Floor Votes, 7/23/15] Headline: The Hill: “House passes bill blocking states from requiring GMO labels on food.” “The House on Thursday passed hotly contested legislation that would keep states from issuing mandatory labeling laws for foods that contain genetically modified organisms, often called GMOs.

The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015, which passed 275-150, would instead create a federal standard for the voluntary labeling of foods with GMO ingredients… Opponents have pushed back against the legislation, saying it will keep consumers from knowing what’s in their food and stop FDA from crafting a national GMO-labeling solution.” [The Hill, 7/23/15] Voted Against An Amendment To Ensure Tribal Sovereignty Under The Safe And Accurate Food Labeling Act Voted Against An Amendment To Ensure Tribal Sovereignty Under The Safe And Accurate Food Labeling Act. Voted For To Reduce Requirements On Restaurant Calorie Disclosures

Voted For To Reduce Requirements On Restaurant Calorie Disclosures. In February 2016, Hurd voted for a bill “that would change the requirement for how restaurants and similar retail establishments with more than 20 locations must disclose calorie information on their menus. Instead of the current requirement for businesses to disclose the number of calories in a "standard menu item," businesses could opt to disclose the number of calories per serving along with the number of servings or disclose the number of calories per common unit division of the standard menu item. The bill would allow for disclosures to have variations from actual nutrient content, including inadvertent human error, variations in ingredients and serving size, and other reasonable variations.” The bill passed 266-144. [HR 2017, Vote #81, 02/24/16; CQ, 2/12/16] White House: Legislation “Would Reduce Consumers’ Access To Nutrition Information.” On February 10, 2016, the White House sent out a statement opposing ‘The Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act of 2015.’ “The Administration opposes H.R. 2017, the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act of 2015. … H.R. 2017 would undercut the objective of providing clear, consistent calorie information to consumers. If enacted, it would reduce consumers’ access to nutrition information and likely create consumer confusion by introducing a great deal of variability into how calories are declared. The legislation also would create unnecessary delays in the implementation of menu labeling.” [White House Statement, 2/10/16] Voted Against Amendment That Would Not Have Allowed Restaurants To Only Post Nutritional Information Online Voted Against Amendment That Would Not Have Allowed Restaurants To Only Post Nutritional Information Online. Hurd voted for the FY2016 Republican House Budget, which would repeal the Affordable Care Act, slash Pell Grants, cut Medicare by $148 billion and end the Medicare guarantee. «DOG BEHAVIOR The Alpha Fallacy It is popularly held that rank is established and maintained by physical strength and dominance and that the more dominant (i.e., higher ranking) dogs are more aggressive. Hence, dogs that frequently threaten, growl, fight and bite are often assumed to be “alpha” animals. Not so Joe! The above assumptions are quite awry. Not only do they betray a theoretically simplistic view of a most sophisticated social structure but also, such notions tend to be...»
