A. Read the passage and do the task below. (10)

You tell us your real-life experiences What it’s like… Whirlwind Romances It’s the stuff Mills & Boon novels are made of – being taken off into the sunset by the man of your dreams who you only met half an hour ago! But surely whirlwind romances never happen in real life? Jeanette Baker spoke to a reader who can safely say it does!

FIONA, 22, from Kirby, had had proposals of marriage in the past but it wasn’t until she fell for her friend’s boyfriend, that she considered saying “yes”.

‘Tim was going out with a friend of mine when I first met him last November. There was an instant attraction and, although I know it was unfair to my friend, that January we started to have a relationship.

Tim’s girlfriend soon realized that something was going wrong with her relationship with Tim and, as he was going to Russia for a fortnight in February, she asked him if he was seeing someone else. He confirmed that it was over between them and, once he was free from that commitment, we spent every day together in the week before he went away.

I couldn’t believe how much I missed him when he was in Russia (even though I’d only known him for six weeks) or how much I had fallen for him. I even said to friends while he was away, ‘This is the man I’m going to marry’. I was slightly nervous when he came back because I wasn’t sure if he felt the same way or if he had even missed me. I needn’t have worried – the weekend after he came back, he proposed. He said he couldn’t bear to be away from me again and wanted to be with me for the rest of his life. I know it may sound old-fashioned but that’s exactly how we both felt.

The wedding date was set for the end of March. We knew it was a terrible rush: but that’s how we wanted it. Everyone was amazed.

information on your personal strengths and weaknesses. Reading your palm then gives you information about yourself so that you can make the most of your love horoscope's advice. Find out what your palm says about you and your love life in our romantic palm reading section.

How to Read Your Palm It's said that the left brain administers language and the right, sensitivity. Well, if you're looking for a complete examination of your life, then you should analyze both hands!

Because the left brain controls the right hand, your right hand will show your reason, intellect, and mental change. Because the right brain controls the left hand, you'll get a better reading of your emotions, love, and realistic changes.

On each hand, you'll carefully analyze the different lines and shapes on your palm.

Because the lines reflect your behaviors, personality, and emotions, you'll find that they're tailed to you. If you look in the general areas, you'll be able to identify the basic lines that give you the most insight into yourself.

Tarot Readings and Love Yes, tarot reading and love horoscopes do share some of the same basic elements.

Read on for more about love horoscopes and tarot. If you want to know how your tarot reading affects you, discover what each tarot card represents.

How Tarot and Astrology Relate Although tarot and astrology are different, each involves meaningful coincidences. Love Horoscopes give you a reading of upcoming situations or emotions relating to your relationships and love life. In astrology, the basis of horoscopes, there are 4 elements -fire, water, air, and earth. (Note: you can learn more about your individual element by visiting your love horoscope page). Each zodiac sign has characteristics of one of these 4 elements and each element relates to specific psychological functions -- intuition, feeling, thinking, and sensation.

Tarot decks contain two types of cards: Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. The Minor Arcana cards are represented by 4 suits, referred to as trumps. These 4 suits correspond to the same elements as in astrology -- fire, water, air, and earth. On a tarot card, wands are symbolic of fire, cups of water, swords of air, and coins of earth.

The two relate through the elements in that certain characteristics of the elements flow to those astrological signs that relate to them as well as to the tarot cards. Although tarot and astrology differ, they both use the mystical elements to help guide you and give you true insight into your life and relationships.

A long and happy marriage is something that many people wish for, but finding the right partner is much 1) _____________ difficult than you might imagine. A friend of mine, Susan, had not been very successful in her attempt 2) _____________ the perfect partner, and she was beginning to feel rather depressed.

One day, she happened to hear someone talking about a computer dating agency which 3) _____________ help you to find the ideal partner. “A dating agency, this person 4) _____________ to her, is a business which acts as a service for matchmaking between potential couples, with a view toward romance and/or marriage between them”.

technique he used to prove it in 1992.

B:

and the inter-aspects among these planets, as well as planetary dominants and astrological houses. The technique is both used for the character analysis and the description of the psychological portrait.

That’s incredible. 3) …………………………………………………………………………?

A:

The book does not just describe Foreman’s theory. It deals with many other topics.

B:

Among other things, it discusses the link between Western astrology and psychoanalysis.

A: How extraordinary! Would you recommend this book to our audience?

B: Indeed. To know oneself and to know other people by looking into a natal chart is one of the best favourite hobbies of both professional and amateur astrologers!

CONVERSATION 2 – An Interview

A: Peter Thompson is an astrologer and palmist. What does an astrologer do, Peter?

B: An astrologer will take your date, place, and time of birth, construct a map of the heavens and a horoscope that will look at temperament, character, emotional needs and a number of other different factors.

4)…………………………………………………………………………………………………?

A:

B: Well, a palmist is quite different from an astrologer. A palmist will look at your hands as they are now, of course, but whereas astrology is a birth chart set up, a horoscope set up for somebody’s birth moment, the hands are your living hands so they’ve developed and grown with you. They reflect where you are today, if you know what I mean.

A: 5) __________________________________________________________________?

B: A lot of astronomers and palmists would say that their job is not about predicting people’s future. It’s our job really to encourage people to live their own lives and help them understand where they are today.

PART III: WRITING

E) Composition: Choose ONE of these two alternatives. Write about 150 words. (30) 1- An informal email

–  –  –

2- Expressing your Opinion “Dating agencies are a good way of meeting new people in our modern age”. Do you agree? Write a short opinion essay expressing your views.
