On the 'Complete courses at a rate….'  Best we could do is project dates.  Many barriers to progres are essentially  unpredictable and to some extent unavoidable.

Many of these must be treated as on‐going processes more than outcomes at a fixed time.  Goals change, financial aid rules  change, life events arise.

These seem like they are things that will be constant throughout their time at Valencia.

Increase their awareness of other transfer institutions besides UCF.

Identify other institutions for transfer as it pertains to their major.

Outline their goals using the SMART criteria.  Based on stated goals, students will take action toward their short‐term goals  (academic, personal & career).  Demonstrate through written essay and perhaps additional assessment.

Demonstrate the resources available by developing an education plan approved by Academic Advising.

3 4 Identify the purpose of Valencia advising resources and tools.

5 Effectively use Valencia's navigation software (LifeMap, Atlas, etc.) CCE Feedback on SLOs  6/26/2013 If students learn these SLOS and nothing more, will we be satisfied?  Accessibility? Specifically for the blind?

Yes, I’m satisfied What about the idea of developing a sense of community (civility, connection, school pride)? Could also fit under personal connection. Everything currently under place seems to be more Pathway (Navigation) items. They’re not about establishing a sense of place.

Seems like the college and not a “sense of place”. Many of these itesm could move to pathways or navigation.

Refined SLOs  6/25/2013 1 Name college resources available to enhance career/purpose planning and devleopment.

2 Name college resources available to enhance learning skill devleopment.

3 Name college resources available to enhance academic planning.

4 Identify the roles of Valencia advising resources and tools.

4 Identify the roles of Valencia advising resources and tools.

5 Effectively use Valencia's navigation software (LifeMap, Atlas, etc.)

Students will be able to Refined SLOs 7/8/13 1 Apply steps  to effectively work within a team to achieve specific goals.  Demonstrate proficiency in communicating with peers and college instructors and staff members following specific  criteria.

2 3 Participate in co‐curricular activities related to their purpose statements and plans.

4 Develop a plan for balancing academic, employment, family, community, and other commitments.

CCE Feedback on SLOs  6/26/2013 If students learn these SLOS and nothing more, will we be satisfied?  Adapt appropriate behaviors for purpose and audience.

The connection of all other “life” events, activities, etc. affects choices. Balance mental, physical.

Refined SLOs  6/25/2013 Apply steps  to effectively work within a team to achieve specific goals. (CORE ‐ Collect, Organize, Rehearse,  1 Evaluate ‐ Downing) 2 Demonstrates proficiency in communicating with peers and college instructors and staff members following  3 Participate in campus activities that relate to their purpose statements and plans.

Refined SLOs  6/15/2013 1 Work with a team to achieve specific goals.

2 Practice effective communication skills with faculty, staff, and students.

3 Engage in campus activites that connect with their personal/career interests, purpose, values, etc.

PATHWAY 'PATHWAY" STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (this was originally "navigation" Students will be able to Refined SLOs 7/8/13 Choose an academic program (meta major) aligned with their educational/career goals, interests, strengths, or  1 values.

CCE Feedback on SLOs  6/26/2013 If students learn these SLOS and nothing more, will we be satisfied?  Note: most of these suggestions are incorporated into other areas: plan, place, and personal connection.

Add personal Include understanding and planning entire academic (degree-seeking) plan, e.g., how AA/AS relates to BA/BS, etc.

Complete some sort of experience that will give them “real world” exposure to their career field of interest (i.e., internship, service learning, job shadowing, informational interviews, etc.)

1) If students learn this only – satisfied. No, these are below college-level tasks.

2). Are the objectives/outcomes appropriate for a 3 credit course?

1A). Added item – required use of self diagnostics – Myers Briggs for example – the outcome might be.

1B). Student should be able to articulate a plan drawing on the results of. (required) (self) diagnostics (appropriate for an SLS course…) 2). Health, wellness, eats well. School life balance missing.

Refined SLOs  6/25/2013 Choose an academic program (meta major) aligned with their educational/career goals, interests, strengths, or  1 values.

Refined SLOs  6/15/2013 Most of these have now been included in PLACE or PERSONAL CONNECTIONS CCE Feedback on SLOs  6/11/2013 Knowing where to locate resources isn't enough.  Need to know where to go for what.

What does communicate effectively mean?  Modes, methods, civility in communication?

Do we really want just to 'articulate' academic behaviors or 'engage' in those behaviors?

There are many realistic, external barriers to 'engaging' in campus activities; work, child care, scheduling.

DRAFT SLOs  6/4/2013 Locate Valencia resources on a campus map (including: Library, Tutoring Center/Writing Center, Atlas Lab,  Career Center, Advising, etc.) Effectively use Valencia's learning software (Blackboard, Library, Atlas, etc.) Effectively use Valencia's navigation software (LifeMap, Atlas, etc.) Articulate academic behaviors needed to succeed in college.

Communicate effectively within an acdemic environment.

Engage in campus activites that connect with their personal/career interests, purpose, values, etc.

Describe the roles of Valencia advising resources and tools.

INITIAL SLOs SUBMITTED 5/28/13 Connect academic/personal needs with relevant academic and support services.

Use Valencia's technology systems (i.e. Atlas, Blackboard) to meet personal career and academic goals.

Create a common glossary of Valencia's College terminology.

Locate physical offices, services and buildings on a campus map.

There was nothing dramatic to report; I didn't have a single serious problem which people could understand. It was just the feeling of nothing being right anymore had crept over me and wouldn't go away. This booklet examines...»

Unfortunately, most people do not have the time or patience to learn these...»
